Ten years ago, Rori Simon left town shy, unattractive and with zero self-esteem. Now she’s back, older, stronger and finally loving herself-and it shows. Hot men are soon knocking at her door, including Jude Callahan, the bad boy who starred in her teenage daydreams…and her adult fantasies.
Jude can’t believe the sexy, confident woman before him is actually Rori! She’s gotten under his skin like no other woman has…and she brings out secret desires he can’t resist. He wants to dominate Rori with every fiber of his being. Wants to own her and pleasure her. To cherish her as he makes her his.
Rori discovers she likes being controlled. She also knows Jude is not a one-woman man. Everything changes when she meets Zach Helm. Edgy, sensual Zach knows just what she needs, and before long, she’s in love. Jude watches them together and wonders if he’s lost his chance forever…

I requested and received a copy of Second Chances by Lauren Dane from NetGalley to read and review. I had seen various blogs lately posting comments about this book and thought it looked interesting. I was not disappointed!

As the marketing blurb for the book says, Rori Simon returns to the small town she grew up in. She left Oakley ten years ago a different person than she is now. In the years since she has left, she has shed some weight, gotten a university degree, done some traveling and is now a published writer. She is recently out of a relationship with a boyfriend who cheated and is done with the lying male segment of the population. She returns to her sister and her husband and two boys, all of whom she is very fond of, and a mother who is on her third husband who she is not so fond of.

Her arrival in town creates quite the stir and within hours she has a date with her high school crush, Jude, and a new apartment in his complex. Jude is well known for his serial dating, but Rori thinks she could have something special with him. Sadly, he’s part of the population that is male and a liar, so he’s kicked to the curb. He’s replaced with Zach, the younger brother of one of her high school girlfriends. As you can tell by the blurb, she falls in love with Zach, and Jude realizes that he has lost out.

I don’t want to spoil the storyline for anyone wanting to read this book, so I won’t give away anymore of the story! I was totally blown away by this story! I’m not sure what I expected. I do tend to gravitate towards the Regency Romance and only read contemporary romance on occasion because I don’t find them as romantic. This book proves that theory wrong! Yes, this book has plenty of sex in it, and most of it is pretty graphic. There is a fair amount of BDSM in this book also. That doesn’t detract from the absolutely heart-wrenching love story that develops. At one point in the book, I actually had tears running down my face when I was reading a particularly touching part.

Zach is a great hero for the story. He is strong, without being overbearing; mature for his age and confident in what he likes. He absolutely cherishes Rori – a beautiful thing to read about! Rori is a confident woman who is open to new experiences and despite her history with a cheating boyfriend, she doesn’t paint all men with the same brush. The character I liked the most was Jude. Although he got kicked to the curb at the beginning of the book by Rori for his lying, he learns from this and grows as a person. The Jude at the end of the book is a much better human being than the skirt chaser that exists at the beginning of the book!

This book is a keeper, and I am going looking for more written by this author!

Travel back to a world where lords and ladies ruled the ton by day and wild, wanton abandon ruled them at night…

Abby Deane has no problems piloting a small plane to her new job–until she lands and realizes she has traveled back in time to Regency England. She’s fascinated by everything around her, especially the seductive Myles Hardy. If she can’t get back to her own time, she might as well enjoy the potent sensuality simmering beneath that rock-hard body…

Myles Hardy can’t take his eyes off the mysterious and alluring woman who’s suddenly appeared in front of him. Miss Abby Deane talks of the future, but it is pleasuring her here and now that most intrigues him. And her bag of sensual delights holds the key to revealing her most secret desires and forbidden fantasies…

This erotic time travel (paranormal novel) is the first novel by Celia May Hart – an author for Aphrodisia Kensington. One More Time is mainly set in 1807 in Regency England. Abby Dean flies her small plane to the hotel that she has recently been hired to manage, but when she attempts to land, the runway disappears and she makes an emergency landing in a field. She meets Myles Hardy when she knocks on the door of what is supposed to be the hotel. At this point, she discovers that she has gone back in time, she realizes that she will have to depend on Myles to help her in this unfamiliar century! Myles finds that idea of her coming from the future far fetched, but is intrigued by the selection of sex toys in her luggage. For some reason, Abby has the blueprints of the mansion/hotel and offers to work with Myles to discover a statue he is seeking that has supposedly been hidden somewhere in the mansion.

The cover of this book is what attracted me to read it! Nothing like a mostly naked, well-buffed man to convince me that this book was worth reading. Like many of the Aphrodisia books, this one has a warning on the back about how sexually explicit it was. There certainly was alot of sex in this book! It isn’t for the faint of heart! Abby and Myles have sex almost immediately and continue having sex at the drop of a hat throughout the book. It was particularly steamy once the Greek Gods came alive and started getting busy with everyone! This book is what I would classify as a Romantica – a cross between a romance novel and an erotic novel. As a romance novel it was a bit thin in the story line. As an erotic novel, it was extremely steamy. It had paranormal aspects as the statue that Abby and Myles are looking for comes alive along with the associated Greek Gods and their bacchantes. Group sex abounds once the various gods and their hangers-on come alive and join the group of interesting people now living at the mansion. This book gets a super-hot rating from me for the erotic aspect but only average for the romance aspect. It did, however, get 5 stars from Romance Times and was a nominee in Romance Times 2007 Reviewer’s Choice Award in the Erotic Romance Category.

Romance Times says: “This scorching roller-coaster of a read is an erotic page-turner. It has romance, intrigue, licentious nobility, a Greek god come to life and an unexpected ending. Feisty Abby and sensual Myles are the perfect couple to surmount the obstacles in their way. This may have been the first book I’ve read by Hart, but it certainly won’t be the last!”

Welcome back to Trinity Blacio!

Today: Guest post and Contest Part 2

Now you know I’m an evil bitch and you are cussing up a storm if you only ready book one Running in Fear: Escaped. Don’t you hate it when you are left hanging? Well here is a sample of book two. Do I leave you hanging again? Oh, I wouldn’t be that heartless (smiles and rubs hands together).

Little tidbit for you: at the age of fifteen, I actually did run away to join a traveling carnival. I think back on it now and I realize it was to get away from my step-father. Was the carnival exciting, NO! I was scared half out of my mind. Had to hitch hike to each site, took baths in hoses or bathrooms of the malls we settled on. As to where I slept, in the back of a semi which was all greasy from the rides they moved in them. Each of us had an account set up at the diner so we could eat, but it would come out of our checks which usually left us nothing. Then there was the men and the drugs. Yes, drugs and men so scary to a fifteen year old  who was thrilled when her mother found her two weeks later to take her home.

Book two, Abandoned, is where we see more of Remi, learn more of him and his ways. {Waves hand in front of her face} God is he hot! But the one part of this story that has always stuck with me and is a crucial part of recognizing that Jaycee will always be fighting to overcome her past, is when she starts to have flashbacks.

Excerpt:

Memories of the past surfaced and she cried. Her legs crumbled and she fell to the floor.

Jaycee curled up into a ball, flashes of Curt’s cruelty surfacing once again. She rocked back and forth. The only word she could speak was “no.”

As if in a cloud far, far away, Jaycee heard Dane and Remi. They whispered words to calm her down, but nothing worked. Gaston burst into the room.

“Slowly move away from her. You’re too close to her. She’s terrified right now, and she hasn’t had a reaction like this in a long time. What the fuck did you guys do?” Gaston demanded and kneeled down beside her. “It’s okay, Jaycee, I’m here.” Dane and Remi moved back. Jaycee knew what was going on and could understand everything, but she couldn’t control her body. She lowered her head and laid it down on her knees. She took a deep breath. “It’s not their fault. I just wasn’t prepared for the emotions. They were so heavy and thick. I felt suffocated like before. I’ll get better, I promise,” she whispered.

Her father stood in the doorway. Anger radiated from him. Kate stood, twisting her hands together. Shelly burst into the room and ran to her. She pulled her up and into the bathroom away from prying eyes.

“It’s okay, Jaycee, you’re away from everyone.” Shelly plopped her butt onto the bathroom counter and gave her the space to get herself together.

Running in Fear: Abandoned

Jaycee Manz has finally found her mates. Among others of her kind, you would think she would be happy. But like everything else, achieving a dream often comes with a price.  How can a person feel totally abandoned when surrounded twenty-four hours a day by her mates? Can she trust them not to rip out her heart?

Remi, Dane, and Mark love their mate Jaycee. Now all they have to do is figure out how to get her to bond with them. Remi knows he’s going to have to force the issue, but he’s determined to have Jaycee at his side no matter what the cost.

The pack has always been first in Dane’s mind, but how does he trust his mate to her duties if she can’t even control her emotions? He knows Jaycee needs help and guidance, but what else is she hiding? Will he have the patience needed to deal with her? Or will he just say the hell with it and tie her to his bed forever?

Being Remi’s bonding partner is not an easy job, but then neither is being Jaycee’s mate. Not only does Mark need to control her, but he also wants to love her. Can she settle down and accept the three of them? If his bonding partner has anything to do with it, she will have no choice, but Mark sees problems coming and knows someone is going to be hurt. ..

Welcome to Trinity Blacio!

Book 1

I don’t know why I agree to do these blogs when every single time the first thing you must write is an introduction and I suck big time at introducing myself. Oh, sure I can tell you I’m tall, skinny, built all nice and curvy, but that would be a dream. Hence the heroines in my story usually talk after me, a curvy, slightly overweight woman. I’m just a plan middle-age woman who wants more out of life.

I’ve lived in Ohio now for past 25 years. I was born here in the same town, Elyria I currently reside in. I have lived in a few other states, my favorite being Minnesota. Sigh, I miss that home, up on the bluff, overlooking the Mississippi river and Wisconsin. I want that house back!

So now I live in a three-bedroom apartment with my two children, daughter 15 and son 12. Of course husband, too, but not even going there at the moment. (Dog House for the past three years) My mom lives about two blocks from us, and his mom lives four doors down—enough said on that front.

I have a younger sister who lives about a mile away and a half brother who lives in Florida, who I just saw last year for the first time in over fifteen years. Talk about a flash back to old time (to the house I loved), but it was great catching up with him. Yes, I’m the oldest, but am I the wisest, NO, and never will be.

Here I am again. I’ve come complete circle. Born here, left here, and came back here after thirty years, but will I stay here in Elyria, Ohio? I hope the answer to that is NO. I want out and as soon as I’m able, I will be out of here so fast it will make everyone’s head spin. However, my kids come before me and they always will. For now they want to stay here and finish school, so we stay for now, but in six years, the youngest will be in college or on his own, and then I’m out of here.

I see myself in a nice apartment with a pool, weight room and up North, I hate heat!! I will be traveling, of course, but I’m starting that next year. I might have to stay put for the kids here now. I will be in Chicago, Tenn., New Orleans next year are all places I haven’t been and conventions I haven’t been to. Yep, I’m doing this for me and no one else.  So watch out Trinity Blacio is slowly claiming her independence! With each of these posts I will show you a little bit about myself and about the books in question.

The Running in Fear series first started out as a way to add little bits and pieces of my life into Jaycee the main heroine. I guess that is why she is one of my favorites. She might come off as quirky, weak at times, but deep down she knows what she wants and she’ll get it even after being abused. Nothing and no one will stop her, and if her mates want her then they better catch up and listen up, because eventually she finds her strength and Jaycee uses it.

One might say a person would not recover from the trauma Jaycee had to endure, but how are we to judge someone else’s pain? Jaycee is very much like me in this way, you might hurt me and I’ll be down for a few, but watch out…I come up swinging.

What do you think you are doing?” Dane asked. She watched him close the bedroom door behind him, locking it.

“I’m packing. Didn’t you hear me wolf boy? I have to get out of here. I won’t get anyone hurt because those beaurocratic assholes screwed up.” After that snappy reply, she went into the bathroom and gathered her stuff.  Large hands settled on her curvy hips and held her in place.

He pressed his body to hers and snarled, “Are you questioning my ability to protect you?” He sniffed her fragrant hair, and then followed the sweet scent to the base of her neck. “I have taken care of this pack and family for the past ten years. I was a Navy Seal for six years.” Hands traced around to the front of her and pulled her back to his body. “My unit is here now for our annual pack meeting, you couldn’t be any safer.” He stated.

Ready to explain to the stubborn man, she turned her body around to face his big black eyes that bore down into her. Six feet five if not taller, his long black hair, pulled back into a braid. Muscles flex throughout his upper body.  She couldn’t love him she just met him but his scent or whatever it was, attacked her hormones. He made them jump around like the Energizer Bunny. Jaycee inhaled deep her legs shook, he held on to her tight.

“Do you feel it, the pull? Your scent drives me crazy too.” He whispered into her ear.

Her eyelids slid down shutting out the entire world, except for the sensual stirrings he caused. Only one other time had he done this to her, and he wasn’t even aware of it.

Keeping the Spice in Sex Scenes

I love being Naughty! In fact, it’s my job! So thank you so much for inviting me today. One of the things I get asked most often as an erotic romance writer is “how do you write all those sex scenes and still make them fresh?” First, let me say I have only written seven books (two published, one about to be published, two contracted and two in progress). Ask me again after 17 (I hope to be so lucky) or 70 (I hope to live so long) and I will give you a more authoritative answer. But I will try to reply based on my limited experience.

Some basic principles. A sex scene has to have a reason for being and that reason is (almost) never “to have sex.” Like all scenes, a sex scene needs to advance the plot and/or reveal character both to the character himself and the reader. In my new release, The Scientist and the Supermodel, for example, my hero Jake has an early sexual encounter with the supermodel, Roan Black. Jake has had homosexual experiences in his past, but he discounts them and thinks of himself as straight. This encounter is designed to set up the conflict of Jake with himself and, of course, to bring my heroes together. Later in the book, Jake and Roan have sex with a woman, Alex. This scene shows Jake how jealous he can be and, most important, it establishes Roan as at least moderately bisexual which is important for the transition to the next book, Genetic Attraction (the next book chronologically, but actually the first book in the series.)

So, when I consider adding a sex scene to a book I ask “why does this scene exist”? What is it designed to accomplish? What will it show? Answering those questions helps determine the action of the scene, it helps shape the dialogue, the internal thoughts and feelings of the POV character. And, if I stay true to the characters’ voices and back-stories, that automatically makes each sex scene different from others that I’ve written. At the end of the scene I ask myself “have we learned what we need to know from this scene”? Has it moved the reader in a certain way? If so, it’s probably a sex scene unique from others in at least significant ways.

Obviously, sex scenes are designed to make the reader feel, well … sexy! So first they have to make me feel that way. If I write a scene mechanically, I go back and start to add the touch, taste, smell, visual interest, and above all, the feelings of the characters. Because I write in deep point of view (or try to) I lock myself into the experience of the point-of-view character and I know when he feels deeply so will I.

I will add that I also write a lot of ménage – of my seven books, six are centered on or involve ménage in some way. Having three characters to play with does make for a certain level of variety not available from two-person sex scenes.

But then again, ask me again after ten more books. : )

ABOUT TARA LAIN

Tara Lain never met a beautiful boy she didn’t love – at least on paper. A writer of erotic romance, mostly ménage and male/male, Tara loves all her characters, but especially her handsome heroes. A lifelong writer of serious non-fiction, Tara only fell in love with EROM in 2009 and, through perseverance and lots of workshops, had the first novel she ever wrote accepted for publication in 2010. She’s now on book six. After an exotic life of travel all over the world and work in television, education and advertising, Tara settled in Southern California with her soul-mate husband and opened her own small marketing business. She paints, collages, and started practicing yoga “way before it was fashionable”. Passionate about diversity, justice, inclusion and new ideas she says on her tombstone it will read, “Yes”.

Geneticist Jake Martin has brilliant scientific vision, but he’s blind to his own nature. Despite his flagging interest in women and his past experience with a man, he’s convinced himself he’d be happy if he could just have his older boss, Emmaline Silvay, as his lover. Living in his closeted dream world, he’s unprepared for the powerful attraction he experiences to supermodel Roan Black, “the most beautiful man in the world.”

Jake can’t resist the gorgeous, androgynous creature. Who could? he thinks. But Roan refuses to accept him until Jake admits that it’s a man he wants and this man in particular. Jake tells himself it’s just sex, but his refusal to understand what he really needs threatens the best chance at happiness he’s ever had. Is there a future for a PhD scientist who refuses to see and a high school dropout supermodel who understands all too clearly?

The following excerpt occurs after Jake has had an unexpected encounter with a man in LA. He is at his parent’s home in Brooklyn, has just asked out a girl who was invited to dinner and is now talking to his brother in the guest room.

The daybed was a little too small, and Jake shifted, trying to get his feet in a comfortable position. The room was dark except for reflections from a streetlight shining through the one window. Yeah, he was tired after the flying and the socializing. He sighed.

“You liked her, huh? You’re going to take her out?” his brother’s voice murmured across the room.

“Yeah, I asked her out.”

“She really turned you on. That date should be hot.”

Realizing hormones pretty much ran his brother’s twenty-year-old life, Jake asked with a grin, “Now why do you think that?”

“Hey, man, I saw you trying to hide that boner when you ran out.”

Jake flushed, glad that the room was dark. “Did everyone see?”

“Nah, just me. I was beside you, remember?”

“Yeah, well, I was thinking of someone else.”

“Ohhh. Your boss, I’ll bet. You’ve got it bad for her.”

Should he go with that suggestion? “Yeah, I do.” Then he decided to be at least a little more honest to encourage Caleb to be the same. “But actually it was someone else.”

He heard his brother sit up in bed. “No shit? You got another woman?”

Why did he have to phrase it quite like that? “Just someone I met in LA.”

“Wow. No wonder you’re so tired, big brother.” He laughed. “What’s her name?”

“I’d rather just forget about it.”

“No fucking way. Is she one of those LA chicks? Is she an actress? Wow. Is she famous?”

“Famous? Yes, that’s right. Now give it a rest.”

Suddenly the daybed was a lot more crowded, and Caleb was sitting on his legs. “Ya gotta tell me, Jake.”

“I don’t gotta tell you.” Shit, why didn’t he keep his mouth shut?

“Why don’t you want to tell me?”

“It’s personal.”

“I’m your brother,” he wailed.

“I know, but I can’t tell you about this.”

Cal was quiet for a moment. “Why not, Jake? Will it shock me? Will it despoil my lily-white ears?”

Jake sighed. “Yeah, it would shock you.”

“Really? Awesome! Let me guess. Threesome?”

“No.”

“S and M?”

“No!”

Cal flopped backward. “Orgy?”

“God, no. Hey, baby brother, what the hell are they teaching you in that college? Are you speaking from experience?”

“Shit, no.” He gave an evil grin. “Wish I was, though.”

“Come on, you like to be tied up?”

“I might consider it.”

“You want to be with a bunch of women?”

“Well, no, not really. But don’t change the subject, bro; we were talking about your indiscretions, not mine.”

“No need. I’m not talking. Get off me. Let’s go to sleep.”

The big body didn’t move, and all Jake’s pushing didn’t budge him. Okay, he’d just go to sleep. Jake turned his head on the pillow and sighed. Ignore the runt.

Cal was quiet, then a voice came out of the darkness. “Jake, did you have sex with a man?”

Jake swallowed hard. “Why the hell would you think that?”

“’Cause I remember that guy. Tom. So did you?”

“Yeah, sort of, but don’t think it was something major. I mean, it just happened…”

“Awesome.”

“What?”

Caleb shifted and brought his face down so he was looking straight at Jake in the dim light. “I said, awesome.” He was quiet for a minute, then seemed to have made a decision. “Jake, my roommate is my lover. His name is Charlie.”

“Holy shit.”

“Yeah.”

They both just rested in the moment. Then Caleb practically pounced on him. “Tell me, Jake. Who was it? What did he do?” Suddenly Jake was being lifted by the shoulders and hugged by his giant of a brother. “Oh crap, Jake, I can’t tell you how much it means to me to have someone to talk to.”

Jake extricated himself gently from the bear hug and scooted back so he could sit up against the pillows. The light coming through the windows illuminated his brother’s handsome face. “Cal, why haven’t you told Mom and Dad?”

He looked a little sulky. “I didn’t hear you sharing your adventures at the dinner table.”

“Yeah, well this was a one-time thing. How long have you known you were…uh, liked guys?”

“It’s okay, Jake, you can say gay. That’s what I am, and I’ve known it since I went into puberty and all my raging hormones were pointing me in the wrong direction. Then I realized it was the right direction for me.”

“But you never told the folks.”

“For a long time I just kind of denied it. Then when I met Charlie and really got committed to the lifestyle, I just got tongue-tied. You know, Dad and Sean are such alphas.”

“I notice you didn’t include me in that description.”

“Well, you’re the pretty one. And you were always so comfortable with Tom. Man, I thought he was cute. Of course, I was just a kid, and he couldn’t see anyone but you. Fuck, that guy loved you.”

“You knew that?”

“Fuck, yeah. Didn’t you?”

“Not for a long time.”

“Wow. Poor guy.”

“Yeah.”

“So is that who you were with? Did he move to LA or something?”

“No, it wasn’t Tom.”

“Yeah, and I guess he wouldn’t be famous, or I’d probably have seen him. So who was it?”

“Doesn’t matter.”

“If it doesn’t matter, why won’t you tell me?”

“Don’t want to.” Shit, what was he, five?

“So what did this unknown guy do?” Cal grabbed him again. “I’ll bet he sucked you off, didn’t he? That’s a pretty heteroflexible activity. Who doesn’t like getting their cock sucked? Right?”

“Yeah, right.”

“So who was it? Tell me, Jake. You know I’m not gonna tell anyone. C’mon, tell me.”

Jake sighed. “Okay. Have you ever heard of a model named Roan Black?”

Dead silence was followed by a soft whisper. “You are shitting me.”

“No.”

His voice rose. “Roan Black sucked your cock? The most beautiful man in the world sucked your fucking cock?”

“Shhh!”

Caleb fell back on the very crowded bed. “Baby, that doesn’t make you gay, it just means you’re smart.”

Jake burst out laughing.

First Timer Friday

with Tia Fielding

Join us in meeting some of the newauthors on the scene every Friday.  Hear what the newbies have to say and discover your new favorite author.

1.  Funniest Show on TV?

This is easy: The Big Bang Theory. As much as I love Modern Family, I still think TBBT is so amazing. It might be my own geeky nerdiness that makes it so, but I’ve rarely stumbled upon so brilliant, intelligent and funny dialogue than there is in TBBT.

2. What makes your First book Naughty?

I suppose it’s the ultimate dream for a lot of girls out there, getting to be in the sandwich with two hot men. I realize I’m taking that a step further, my heroine isn’t someone who would just go with things, have things happen to her. No, she’s an active participant, and you have to read the story to see how active she is exactly…

3.  If you could talk to animals would you want to?

Not really. I mean first of all there are those kinds of animals that would be annoyingly chatty all the time and I don’t like that in people, so in animals too, no thank you. But mainly I wouldn’t want that, because I can already have “discussions” with my own pets, so I don’t really need to be able to speak their language to understand them. Most of the time I do just fine without.

4.  If you could switch places with one of your characters would you?

Possibly… I had to think about this for a while, actually. It would be so different from my real life to be one of the trio for just a day, that I might want to try it out. Then again I’m quite happy without all the emotional turmoil Mac is going through. Maybe I’d be one of the boys instead?

5.  Are you a jungle cat or house cat?

I’m a mixture. An alien hybrid. No, really, I suppose that pre-caffeine I’m a jungle cat, after that I’m a house cat. Maybe I should describe myself as a jungle cat living in a house?

About Tia Fielding:

Tia Fielding lives in a peaceful little town in a small country in Northern Europe. She loves nature, her horses, cats, and even the yappy little thing that occasionally gets called a dog. Tia learned to read before she went to school at the age of six, and began writing as soon as she figured she had stories to tell, around the mature age of seven. Stories about horses, adventures and ghosts might have turned into hot GLBTQ-romance, but she still has a wicked imagination and, hopefully, more stories to tell.

Naughty Tip 1: Being Naughty on the Run

Who says a woman wanted for murder doesn’t have time for a little fun? Bullets, car chases, hitmen or sexy, mysterious strangers with their own agendas should never get in the way of letting your hair down and being a little…naughty. But when weapons and off-the-charts sexual tension are involved, it doesn’t hurt to have a game plan.

1. While on the run together, be sure to spend the night in a run-down motel where the only thing harder than the mattress is pretending you don’t want each other.

2. Handcuff yourselves together for maximum closeness.

3. When your canoe tips while fleeing the scene, don’t be afraid to get a little wet. After you break into that empty cabin to lay low from the police, you’ll have a reason to take your clothes off and cozy up by the fire.

4. Keep your gun close, but the condoms closer.

5. A full body massage is the perfect way to wind down after a long, hard day of out-smarting bad guys and clearing your name.

Excerpt from Trust Me

Babysitting a gift shop wasn’t the smartest way for an alleged murderer to keep a low profile. But then what were friends for, right?

At least that was how Maxine Walker interpreted the look on her friend’s face a moment after Sherri insisted she watch the place while she took her daughter to the hospital.

Max winced at the blood running down Ellie’s leg from where she’d split her knee open after falling off her bike.

“You’ll be fine.”

For a second she wondered if Sherri was talking to her or nine-year-old Ellie.

“Sherri—”

Her friend finished wrapping a hand towel around Ellie’s knee. “You can handle it, Max.”

“That doesn’t make it a good idea.” In fact, it was a very bad idea. Bad like the first time Sherri had talked her into going to a keg party. Only this time she could end up with more than a crescent-shaped scar on her chin and fuzzy memories of people chanting Chug. Chug. Chug.

Like twenty-five to life in prison.

ISBN-13: 978-1-60272-267-5

When cops can’t catch the most-wanted criminals, they hire Gaelyn. She comes from a long line of bounty hunters, including her father, uncle, and grandfather. Extensive training in weaponry, hand-to-hand combat, and adverse conditions have seasoned her into a formidable opponent against any contracted hit, whether male, female, alien, or human. She has little fear of the unknown and thrives on adventure.

Only one other hunter matches her status—Reese, a Trøndite from the small planet of Sør-Trøndalag in the Capricornus Sector. And the man has a knack for stealing her contracts. Both cunning and gorgeous, the mix doesn’t seem quite fair. But attractiveness holds little power over money. Reese had beaten Gaelyn out of a half-year’s pay a scarce three months ago, and she will be damned if he outwits her again.

Thinking she’s duped Reese back onto Jupiter, Gaelyn isn’t too happy when she runs into him on Quaoar at the Blue Moon, an authentic hole-in-the-wall bar tucked at the end of a narrow alley in what would be considered the rough part of town; just the place to find her contracted hit. But Reese not only has the information she needs to find her mark, he also has a business proposal that’s too tempting to pass up. And a partnership with Reese just might prove rewarding in a way Gaelyn never expects…

Excerpt: Chasing Booty

An empty alley greeted her. She scanned the pathway from front to back, top to bottom, slowly making her way behind the bar. It appeared as though he’d vanished.

He’s here…

Her eyes strained to see an outline, a shape, anything.

I know he’s here!

But without her de-cloaking goggles, she’d never see him, even if he stood against the wall right in front of her.

That slimy son of a…

She spotted what looked to be an article of clothing tucked behind a pile of empty crates near the back door. Using the toe of her boot, she pulled the item from its hiding spot. Instantly recognizing the khaki pants, she knew she’d been duped.

“Dammit!” Re-holstering her weapon, she retraced her steps and went back inside the bar. Ignoring the bewildered patrons who’d all stopped to watch her entrance, she went straight for the counter.

“Where are the ice caves?” she demanded, not waiting for the bartender to finish pouring his customer’s drink. “What’s the quickest way there?”

The bartender nodded toward a shrouded figure seated at the other end of the counter.

Gaelyn gritted her teeth. She didn’t have time for games. Glancing at the cloaked being through narrowed eyes, she quickly evaluated any potential level of threat.

Male. Tall. Well-built. Who is this guy? Where’d he come from?

She hadn’t noticed him before.

With an air of “don’t-fuck-with-me” in her step, she made her way toward him. “The bartender seems to think you can be of some assistance,” she declared, stopping a mere six inches to the left of the man’s seated frame.

He ignored her, choosing instead to take a long swig from his mug.

Removing her laser from its holster on her left thigh, she plopped it onto the counter top. Her hand rested lightly on its black metallic shape, her finger hugging the trigger. “Well?”

“I can take you there, for a price,” he replied, his deep voice a thunderous rumble within his muscular chest.

Annoyed, she lifted her chin. “Name it,” she practically growled.

The man chuckled. “It’ll be steep,” he warned. “Perhaps more than you’re willing to pay.”

Gaelyn’s patience wore thin. They wasted precious time. Is this guy gonna get down to business or what?

Struggling to see his face beneath the shadowed hood, she leaned a little closer. “Look, buddy. I don’t have time for games. Either name your price or I’ll take my business elsewhere.”

He glanced at her, his onyx, deep-set eyes two bottomless black pits within his handsome angular face. “I want half the booty. For starters.”

Gaelyn’s breath caught in her throat. Reese.

This wasn’t happening.

He pulled back his hood, letting the heavy material fall onto his broad shoulders in a neatly folded pleat. “Hello, Gael. It’s been a long time.”

Her right fist doubled at her waist. With forced control, she resisted the urge to knock that superior smirk right off his handsome face. “Reese,” she said through clenched teeth. “I suppose you’re after the same hit.”

He shrugged. “It’s a sizeable payoff.”

“He’s my contract.” Warning laced her tone.

Reese turned fully toward her, his massive frame almost comical atop the strained bar stool. “Well now, seems we have a difference of opinion on that matter.”

He offered a grin so seductive it could melt the ice right off Quaoar’s frozen surface. The bartender’s description fit him to a tee. With his rectangular features—the wide zygomatic breadth, the broad jaw and flaring gonial angles, the prominent chin—Reese did look like the devil himself. Of course the red skin, horns, and barbed tail only added to his demonic appearance.

Gaelyn’s gaze dropped to the tight black T-shirt stretched across his bulging pecs and flat abs. Warning bells clamored in her head, but her inspection continued on to the waistband of his faded jeans, and inevitably to the generous bulge at his groin. An old song her father used to play popped in her head and it took everything she had not to belt it aloud.

The devil went down to Georgia, he was lookin’ for a soul to steal.

In a bind, cause he was way behind, he was lookin’ to make a deal…

Despite her fury, Gaelyn’s insides responded. Her stomach knotted with instant need, causing her pussy to clench. One couldn’t dispute the man’s virility. While they’d never “hooked” up, she couldn’t deny her attraction. She’d be willing to bet half the contracted pay that he’d be awesome in bed.

She’d heard Trøndite males had large penises, that they were, in fact, able to do extraordinary things with their members. She wasn’t sure what those things might be, but the swell in his pants clearly indicated his considerable endowed. She imagined herself down on all fours with Reese up behind her, pounding his big cock in and out of her tight channel.

Moisture seeped between her legs, making her leather pants cling to her crotch most uncomfortably. The room felt hot. She hadn’t had a good fuck in quite a while. Perhaps they’d work that into the deal…
