Better commenting late than never?

I just wanted to give a huge bravo to your description of what exactly Domination and submission are. Before Sierra and I wrote our first book, Carrie's Answer (which is very soft BDSM) I really struggled with the idea of BDSM. I had the popular view of whips, chains, pain and humiliation. It was Joey W. Hill's Rough Canvas (which was also, incidentally, my first m/m romance and is still on my re-read for inspiration shelf next to Cheating Chance) that first gave me that "ah-ha" moment. The one where I realized it wasn't about toys, or props, or bullying. It was a power exchange, yes, but the one in control wasn't the one tying the ropes or wielding the crop.

That kind of intimacy and trust humbles and awes me. And authors who manage to convey it - the most important component of BDSM and D/s - have my unreserved respect. It's so much more than tab A/slot B. It's so much more than whipping or spanking. It's something integral to a person's very being, and it's a rare and talented author who can capture the emotion of it on the page.

So, yay James for not only defining BDSM and D/s in a way that makes sense, but for creating and sharing characters who embody it in a way that's not only vivid, but also accessible. And, since I'm having a fan-girl moment and totally sucking up, I'll also mention that the contrast between what Nicky and Brandon do, and Nicky's interaction with his evil ex is one of the most effective I've ever seen, and it's what I refer folks to when they make uneducated comments about what I read and what I write.

Okay, like most authors I've run off at the keyboard way more than I'd meant to. I'm creeping back into my cave to lurk again! ;)

Hi Rick!

Thanks for joining us in the Backseat. It is such an interesting thing that erotic horror is a rising genre. My brain has this hard time wrapping around it though I know it makes perfect sense. Thank you for the peek at your titles and being a good sharer. The interview was a fun read.
