Naughty in the Backseat would like to welcome Ella Jade, author of Be My Everything to the blog.  Today she is dropping by to answer a few questions and to share a bit about her book.

Naughty – Describe yourself in 20 words or less

Ella – I can’t do anything in 20 words or less. I’m a wordy thing! I’m an energetic, SAHM to two active boys. When I’m not writing, I’m kickboxing, attending PTO meetings and chasing after my kids.

Naughty – Why do you want to be a writer?  What started you on this journey?

Ella – For as long as I can remember, the words and dialogue have always played out in my head. Being a writer isn’t something I want to do, it’s something I need to do. I have to tell the stories.

Naughty – What is your favorite part about writing?

Ella – Creating all of those fun and interesting characters. The people in my stories can be anyone I want them to be. My favorite part is having my two main characters connect to one another. I love coming up with that emotional bond that brings them together.

Naughty – What do you find the most difficult part of writing?

Ella – For me, it’s not hard coming up with the ideas. It’s finding the time to devote to my stories. It’s getting easier now that my boys are in school full time. I’m finding that I can dedicate more hours a day to my craft. That’s a really good thing!

Naughty – Describe your latest release for us.

Ella – Be My Everything is my first BDSM Romance. It’s about two people who enter into the perfect sexual arrangement, no strings attached. But, what happens when their hearts get in the way?

While it explores the training aspect of the BDSM lifestyle, it’s not hardcore. The story focuses more on the developing relationship between a Dominant and his submissive. It’s ultimately a love story.

Naughty – What is your favorite character in this release?

Ella – Lucas is my favorite character in this novel. He’s strong, sexy and domineering, but he has a softer side. I liked being able to explore what would happen when a man so bent on never falling in love has to relinquish the control and give in to his true feelings. He’s flawed but has so much potential.

Naughty – What is your favorite scene?

Ella – It’s hard to pick just one because there’s a whole lot of heat going on in this book.  If I had to pick one, I’m going with the chapter entitled “Luke’s Bedroom”. That chapter marks the turning point in the novel and I think we start to see Luke’s true feelings floating to the surface. It’s a lighter scene and there’s a nice exchange between the two main characters.

Naughty – Where can your fans find you?

Ella – I love making new friends. Readers can connect with me over on my blog http://ellajadeauthor.blogspot.com. You can also find me on twitter @ellajade1 and FB http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001950837414.

Naughty – Where can your books be found?

Ella – Be My Everything – Beachwalk Press – http://beachwalkpress.com/be-my-everything/

Naughty – Anything else you’d like to add?

Ella – Thanks for having me. I look forward to making new friends. I have a busy Fall ahead of me with two more releases scheduled. The Lonely Dominant will be available on 11/14/11 from Noble Romance Publishers and my first m/m Romance, Embracing the Unexpected is scheduled for December with Beachwalk Press. Follow me for all the details.

Ella Jade has been writing for as long as she
can remember. As a child, she often had a
notebook and pen with her and now as an
adult, the laptop is never far. The plots and
dialogue have always played out in her
head, but she never knew what to do with
them. That all changed when she discovered
the EBooks industry. She started penning
novels at a rapid pace and now she can’t be
stopped.

Ella resides in New Jersey with her husband
and two young boys. When she’s not chasing after her kids, she’s busy writing, kickboxing and
scrapbooking. She hope’s you’ll get lost in her words.

Hurt Me So Good by Joely Sue BurkhartHurt Me So Good

by Joely Sue Burkhart

One sub to please the Master…in any way he wishes.

Victor Connagher is no stranger to the Dallas BDSM scene. As CEO of a risqué cable channel that caters to adventurous adults, he ensures the lifestyle is portrayed in a positive light. He even supports a local bondage club. Yet behind the cool, confident mask, Victor lives in fear.

Once, and only once, he lost control of his inner Dom—and it cost him his fiancée. Now, no one knows how hard he works to keep his darker appetite for pain buried. No matter how much his saucy, confident associate producer makes his fingers itch to once again take up his riding crop.

Shiloh Holmes is a sub, but she’s no doormat. She’s always suspected Victor has the skills to feed her insatiable need for pain, and now she’s found the perfect way to crack his formidable control. Develop a new reality show, America’s Next Top sub…and dare him to compete.

Week after week, as Shiloh fearlessly challenges the real Victor to come out of hiding, he realizes his past mistake was only a blow to his pride. If he loses Shiloh, he could lose his heart.

Warning: Explicit sex, BDSM, reality television, a very reluctant Dom, an audacious sub willing to do anything to win for him, and one very wicked riding crop.

Hurt Me So Good by Joely Sue Burkhart

Review by Armenia

4.5 Whips/5 Whips

I admit I don’t watch much reality television but with the first paragraph of Hurt Me So Good I was hooked. Joely Sue Burkhart grabbed me by the collar and lead me down a path I could not stray, and I gladly followed. To my fascination this super-length novella overflowed with sexual tension that seem to increase with each page. I found myself at the edge of my seat as I “watched” Victor and Shiloh’s story unfold before my eyes. As contestants on a television show called America’s Next Top Subthe chemistry between them sizzled “on” and “off” the stage. The sex is hot, the foreplay edgy, and lots of dominant/submissive action got my total attention. Although Victor’s reluctance to unleash his intensely dark desires had me wondering if he could satisfy Shiloh’s need for painful release. I had to admire Shiloh for her planning and persistence to help Victor realize he was her true Master; that only her offer of surrender and challenge could bring him total completion.

As a warning, the story leans heavily towards intense BDSM play, quite edgy for a typical romance book. Readers wanting a quick glimpse into the power play of Domination and Submission will not be disappointed. Hurt Me So Good delves into the psche of two very complex individuals with very dark needs. They truly are two halves of each other, requiring the strength of one another to complete themselves.

Joely Sue Burkhart did a beautiful job of portraying this lifestyle in a positive light. I highly recommend Hurt Me So Good for the romance reader who wants an edgy romance.

Terry Kate :   I am welcoming the Mistress of origami and author of Fortune, a new BDSM novel, to the Backseat.  Annabel Joseph is with us to share the details of Fortune.

Annabel Joseph:  Hi Terry! I like that. “Mistress of Origami.”

TK:  So what do hopping dollar frogs and folded paper cranes have to do with your book?

AJ:  Well, the hero of Fortune is a surgeon and he’s really physical. He likes to do things with his hands. So he is really into rope too, and he ties the heroine up in all these intricate ways trying to “tame” her. He also sets out to fold 1000 cranes since that is supposed to bring good fortune. But of course, things are never so simple as that. It’s a very emotional book…

TK: Wow, I know surgeons learn knots, but was he a Boy Scout or what?

AJ: Uh, no…definitely no boy scout. A little too naughty for that.

TK: Well we like them naughty here!  I am a practical person. What if your Dr. hero ties up your heroine and gets called in to work?

AJ: There is actually a scene in the book kind of like that, where he has to untie her pretty quickly. Of course, being so adept with his fingers…so dexterous…lol. This guy is just really good with his hands. His name is Ryan, and he was actually one of the secondary characters in my last book, Deep in the Woods. I loved him so much, I just knew he had to have his own book and his own story.

TK: Do we need to have read the first book to get into the series or is this a stand alone?

AJ:  No, you don’t have to read the first book, since Ryan just made a two chapter supporting appearance as Dave’s best friend in Deep in the Woods. But if you did read it, Ryan has a very sexy part in that book, so it might get you primed, so to speak, for this book. Also, Dave and Sophie, the characters from Deep in the Woods, show up in this book, which is fun. But this book takes place in Boston and the last one took place in Atlanta, and this is a totally new story and a new girl with Ryan, so you can read it without reading Deep in the Woods.

TK: Let’s get a little into your heroine. She has faced some demons. What inspired you, and drives her?

AJ: Almost all of my heroines are fighting demons. I suppose that says something about me. This newest heroine, Kat, really has everything…good health, loving family, good job…but she feels like she’s going nowhere. I think what she really craves is love and connection, but she’s too fearful to give up the control it takes to really fall in love. That’s where Ryan and his shibari ties come in. They are sort of a metaphor for connection and security–and giving up that control to someone. A lot of people I know who like rope and being tied talk about that feeling of care and security. But falling in love is never easy, especially if you’re afraid of failure or being hurt.

TK:  We often think that others have it easier, or everything a person could want, but everyone’s pain is as real as yours.

AJ:  Yes, and that’s a lot of her issue. She feels like…What is WRONG with me that I can’t get it together when I should be able to have my sh*t together? For me, as an author, I prefer to write people who are real like that, who aren’t perfect and totally together. I’m not like that, and I don’t know many who are. I like to write about people who are struggling with life, or emotions or relationships. People struggling with being honest and putting themselves out there and being vulnerable even when they don’t want to be. Those are all really interesting to me, because that’s reality for a lot of people.

TK: Have you always been interested in the art of origami or did the idea for knots come first and the origami followed?

AJ:  I actually became interested in both the knots and the origami only recently. I had heard a lot about rope and shibari from my BDSM friends, but I never really “got” it. Then my good friend became involved with a kinky play partner who was into both rope AND origami and actually integrated both into their BDSM play. That just sparked my author imagination and the story took off from there. When you think about it, both are very intricate and very detail oriented…and of course, both have a mystical/emotional component. There is the long tradition of “senbazuru” or 1000 origami cranes to bring good fortune and a wish, and with shibari you have the concept of “kinbaku” or the emotional interplay that goes on between the shibari rigger and the subject. They both began to seem very mystical and erotic to me over the course of writing this book. So I am fairly new to origami, but I’ve been folding a lot lately. I’d like to fold 1,000 cranes, but it takes a lot of dedication…

TK:   It would be an achievement to be proud of.  Also it might bring you luck – sales – and enough money to pay for all that origami paper!

AJ:  I hope so. I have been trolling Ebay for cheap origami paper lots. But sales would be spectacular.  I really feel like–besides the hot sex and BDSM–this book is very emotional and moving.  I think it will really make people feel something.  So I hope it’s a success.

Terry Kate: I would like to welcome to the Backseat futuristic, erotic, and very, very sexy author Michelle Polaris.

Michelle Polaris: Thanks, Terry. I am thrilled to be here and hopefully will thrill your readers as well (grin).

TK:  So I have to say I was thrilled with your book which is your debut. We have two very sexy men and a lady. Makes for a hot story set in a sadly environmentally hot future.

MP: Thank you. Bound Odyssey is my first attempt at romantic erotica and I loved every minute spent writing it. The story centers around three very alpha characters. A female dominatrix, another sexy southern gentleman who is a sexual switch, and the stubborn, alpha male cowboy diplomat who they have to “train” in the ways of submission. That it takes place in the year 2067 when the world is self-destructing around them only ups the tension between this intense but delicious threesome. I fell in love with each of these characters as I wrote them.

TK: So frankly there is some political, environmental undertones to the story, so tell the truth, if it is yellow do you let it mellow?

MP: Only in the middle of the night (LOL) when flushing toilets wake the kiddies. I try hard to live an environmentally responsible life. Our cars are small and gas efficient and the theromostat is turned as low as we can bear in the winter. And we recycle as much as possible. Not compulsive about it, but we try. However, my husband is mister pessimism, so looming environmental disaster is inevitable in his book (sigh). I’m very thankful to have written my characters a way out of their own environmental disasters.

TK: So what made you decide that BDSM culture would be the salvation of humanity?

MP: (Big grin). Doesn’t sound so likely, huh. At the time the story came to me I’d been reading some BDSM romantic erotica and the lifestyle fascinated me. From my understanding of it there was a certain emotional truth to the relationships that I didn’t always get in other stories. I also loved reading powerful female characters and new there was less female dominant characters in the BDSM romances in print. My mind started percolating around and tried to figure out what would make it crucial for a strong alpha male character to be forced into a situation where we must confront his own submissive tendencies. I am a fantasy and sci-fi reader by nature and I love world building. So the post-apocalytpic setting was a no brainer and I loved the challenge of creating a believable earth future where the environment was on a fast pace to collapse. My husband is a scientist, so he helped me create an interesting scenario to trigger the destruction. I also love intense characters and you can’t get too much more intense than BDSM in the sexual scenario department. All of this added together to end in my story question. What would happen if the only hope for our salvation was to travel through a portal to a parallel world where the predominant culture was one of female domination, including in all business and cultural interactions. How would our male dominated earth society cope and who would they get to do the negotiation to make emmigration successful to this new world? I was fascinated with the challenge. And out popped Mira, Jace and Roman, the heroine and two heroes respectively, to struggle through the task of preparing for the diplomatic challenge of a lifetime. Salvation through submission. Maybe I should get a bumper sticker printed (laugh).
 TK: I want one!

MP: I’ll let you know when I get them in (grin).

TK: So maybe not the most feasible future, and yet the political aspects worked in are excellent. Now in a future short on food and fresh produce, what would you miss the most?
MP: Fresh berries and all of the tropical fruits. Environmental cataclym tends to put the cabosh on a lot of imports. I imagine coastal flooding may also decimate sugar crops so not a lot of sweets. I’m groaning thinking about the potential loss of chocolate as a staple in my diet. At the same time, with weather patterns in complete disarray, the bread basket may also dry up. No wheat? There’s nothing better than fresh bread. This would be a complete disaster. I’m getting depressed just thinking about it and I dreamed up the story to begin with. We better find this parallel world fast (LOL).
TK: So will there be any more books in this world or will you boldly go on to new worlds from here?

MP: Both. I’ve begun a sequel that takes place on the parallel world itself and includes the characters from Bound Odyssey. But it also features the love story between three brand new characters. Two men from the new world and one earth woman who appears as a secondary character in Bound. Guess the BDSM threesome is an ongoing theme of mine. Having said this, I can’t finish this new story until I complete a short male/male BDSM novel I’m writing. That story opens during an erotic magic show in Las Vegas and has some fantasy elements. Look for Jesse and Savin, my heroes from this book, in the future.

TK: You tease! Are you in the closet about what you write?

MP: I’m coming out of the closet more and more every day (LOL). Actually, I did choose a pen name to preserve my secret identity. But most of the important folks in my life do know. If erotic romance authors all have secret identites like the best of the superheroes, then we all deserve erotic romance super powers. I’m planning on blogging on this topic very soon, so start dreaming up your special power if you were to be an erotic romance superhero. Heck, even if you’re an erotic romance reader too.
TK: What color cape do you have?

MP: Black. And it’s leather of course. All to go with the boots. I’d call myself Wonder Whip Woman, but whoever has the copyright on Wonder Woman might get upset (grin). Although I do feature her and Batman in the Bound Odyssey story. I really liked writing that part of the dialogue.
TK: I have had many a fantasy featuring the bat. Sigh…  We can find out more about Mechelle Polaris‘s book on her site  http://michellepolaris.com/. and read the review of her book here on Naughty in the Backseat.  Thanks Michelle!

Michelle Polaris: Thank you, Terry. I had a lot of fun here. I hope your readers do check out Bound Odyssey. It was one of those stories of my heart, believe it or not, and Mira, Jace and Roman are quite a kick. Take care of yourself.

 Terry Kate: I try.
My first erotic romance, Bound Odyssey, explores the world of BDSM on a futuristic, post-apocalyptic Earth. Challenging myself with authentically recreating the Domination and submission subculture in this story and the psychology behind those dynamics was important to me. I wanted readers new to BDSM to come away with some level of understanding of what this flavor of sexuality was about. Thinking about why, I came to the realization that erotic romance, or even just erotica, is an important way for people to explore their sexual identities.
Most of us live fairly mundane lives with no sexy, fast-paced plot elements forcing us to uncover conspiracy and save the world or our loved ones. No one has manipulated us into spending the week locked in a room with two gorgeous sexual trainers or have our minds blown away by new sensual adventures. Instead, we plod along at our jobs and our relationships. Life easily becomes stale unless we breathe life into it. And sometimes fear closes us down. Fear of change, fear of being different, fear of the sacrifices we would be forced to make if we consider the world from a different perspective. We can all use a little help to consider moving safely in new directions. And a book is a perfect vehicle for that help. Isn’t the mind our most important sexual organ? Well, at least for women (grin).
I suspect that too often we are afraid of our sexual fantasies. A passage from an erotic romance might be the perfect means to explore a new idea or just find validation for a favorite daydream of ours. Heck, book marking a scene and sharing it with a partner or lover is a fine and dandy way to introduce a new possibility into a sexual relationship. Especially if it’s too hard to start a discussion about it another way. Although I am a big advocate of finding a way to talk about sex with your partner.
Rarely does anyone mention reading erotic romance as a vehicle for life altering change. But I must admit that when I came upon a story that resonated with a fantasy I remember having as an adolescent, I experienced an “ah ha” moment. So that’s what was going on for me, I mused. Again, very validating. And totally unexpected when I first considered reading this genre.
You never know what may happen if you pick up an erotic romance or an erotica. At the very least, you could have a rockin’ good time and rev your engines through a sexy, intense story. But maybe you’ll find more for yourself than just a hot tale. A new zing to your own sexual relationship. A better way to understand your fantasies. New fantasies that you never knew you had. And possibly, find a way to be less afraid of non-traditional, non-mainstream ideas of what is acceptable sexuality. Both for yourself and for others.
If even one of my readers finds something personal for themselves inside the pages of my story, I’ll know I succeeded in one of my goals. But in the meantime, I’ll be thrilled to death if readers simply have a grand old arousing and enjoyable time with my book.
The year is 2067. An alpha cowboy diplomat…the sexual Dominant team hired to train him…a world self-destructing. Three hearts search for salvation on their Bound Odyssey.
