Black Cats…

I’ve always been a cat person.  When I was a kid, we lived in a rural area and I always enjoyed springtime because that meant kittens.  Every spring the three or four mother cats would have a litter of soft mewing fur balls. They were so adorable and helpless.  The cats were barn cats so most of them didn’t make it very long, but I always had a cat or ten following me around.  When I was married my hubby didn’t care for cats, but out of love, he gave me a cat for our first Christmas, soon the cat liked him better than she liked me.  He’s a cat person now too.

We have a black cat named Rascal and the little stinker lives up to his name.  His breed is Bombay and true to the breed, he loves people.  He’s my little writing buddy.  I write after the kids are asleep because I have a day job so I’m up late every night banging away at the keyboard. Rascal stays up with me sleeping in the chair next to me or watching me type from the back of the breakfast nook bench.  As soon as I turn, the computer off he’s at the stairs waiting for me to go to bed.  He’ll stop and wait until I’ve got up a few steps and then he’ll go up a few more and stop again. I think he thinks I don’t know how to find my bed since I spend so few hours in it!

As soon as he’s tucked me in, he goes and crawls in to my daughter’s bed with our other cat and goes to sleep.  He’s such a cute little thing.  This summer I decided to write something for Halloween.  When I started to think about what Halloween means to me, I decided that black cats were at the top of my list.  That’s how Just One Night was born in my imagination. Here’s the blurb…

Wynn Goode made a big mistake when he took two of his witch wife’s coven sisters to his bed and expected his wife to join in the fun. Cursed for two hundred years to a life as a tomcat he is only human for one day a year and the only way for him to break the curse is to make a woman truly love him. Mika is a Native American girl who has left her life on the reservation to move to Chicago and act on the stage. When a very strange cat adopts her, she begins to have some very erotic dreams. Will Wynn be able to save her from her jealous ex and make her love him before All Hallows Eve?

I loved writing this story and it just proves that black cats aren’t really bad luck after all.  I hope you will enjoy reading Just One Night as much as I enjoyed writing it.  Silver Publishing releases it on October 30th just in time for you to read it and get in the All Hallows Eve spirit.  I hope it will be your favorite “treat” this year.

Happy Halloween **hugs** ~Ashlynn~

There are many different aspects of the Romance genre.  Erotic is a branch all its own that over flowing with a whole slew of smaller specialties. Being that each segment of this hot genre falls beneath the colorful Erotic umbrella, one would think that making a jump from writing traditional M/F erotica to write stories with a character dynamic of M/F/M should not be all that difficult. At least that was my initial misconception.

I am currently prepping for the release of my first such jump with my story Claiming Night. When I first decided to make the jump, I followed my usual process. Laying out the basic story and scenes was simple enough and required no real change in what I had been doing all along. Even general conversation fell into place rather easily, well at least up until I started my first sex scene.

At that point, I developed a much better respect for authors who write multiple sexual partner scenes. I cannot even count the number of time in which I looked back at a section of dialog or action and ended up scratching my head while I attempted to make sense of who was doing what to who or who had been talking. At times, it became very disconcerting.

In the end the piece required a bit more editing then previous releases (as the editor will confirm)  and gave me a feeling of unexpected accomplishment. I believe the experience helped me grow as an author and look forward to the completion of my second ménage story, which is currently in progress. If you even had the notion to try writing one of these yourself, I highly recommend it.

A Demon’s Kiss by Sable Grey

Review by Jasmine

4.5/5 Whips in the Backseat

A Demon’s Kiss by Sable Grey is a solid short read.  It is not every author that can this scillfully pack a punch of paranormal demons and sweet romance.  Sweet is the only way I can think to describe the interaction between Patricia and Jack.  She has pined for him as he runs the general store, he has been listening to her thoughts, that are anything but innocent when it comes to him.  The question is, when the Demon wings come out will she stay or will she run?

What I found very interesting is that the book is a historical set in 1837 Roscoe, Colorado.  Really as I read the historical setting slipped away which I found rather nice.  It would have hung up a story this short if the author had dwelled to much on the setting and distracted from the boy likes girl, girl likes boy aspect.  All in all this is a nice read, that warms the heart, as we see that courting between the hero and the heroine brought to a head by her discovery of Jack’s Demonic side.  Otherwise they likely would have been going on carriage rides and picnics for quite a while in their chaste road towards marriage.

Definitely a fun read for those that are partial to the genres of paranormal or historical and even for those that are not.  The relationship between these two characters drives the story like the most enjoyable reads do.

I am excited to welcome Debra Glass to the Backseat today -

Usually I am the only one who does interviews – so to keep things interesting I have decided to add my two cents to some of the answers – and leave only the most interesting questions.  So Enjoy!

- Terry Kate

Debra GlassIf you weren’t a writer, what would you be?

I joke that my day job is writing and I moonlight as a tour guide. I started a ghost walk tour in my hometown and during the week of Halloween, I escort people to the local haunted sites and tell ghost stories.

What was your favorite book as a child? Why?

My favorite childhood book was 13 Alabama Ghosts and Jeffrey by Kathryn Tucker Windham. Ms. Windham is an Alabama storyteller who possesses a lovely Deep South accent. I always enjoyed her creepy tales steeped in legend
and truth.

Sexy heels or comfy flats?

When I go out, I love to wear my favorite pair of wicked stiletto boots. At home, I’m a typical Alabama girl – bare feet!

-  I thought the barefoot part of the Southern woman experience was an exaggeration.

Heroines – Spicy or sweet? Heroes – Cowboy, vampire, or minister?

I love a spicy heroine who has a vulnerable side. I especially enjoy the banter between a strong heroine and an alpha hero. In choosing between cowboy, vampire, or minister, I’d have to take the vampire. I love the idea of otherworldly power and the strength the vampire has to have not to devour the heroine.

- Minister?  Where did that come from?  Alien would have been more likely if I was asking the question!

What’s your favorite word? Least favorite word?

My favorite word is “dangerous.”  My least favorite word is any buzz word currently being bandied about. Right now, because it’s an election year, the word “transparency” has me cringing.

- I have a friend who plans to give his kids, Danger, Sexy, and Adventure for middle names.  We shall see if the future Mrs Bernstein agrees.

Debra GlassSwings or merry-go-round?

Swings. Of course! (the indoor kind)

Winter or Summer?

Summer, summer, summer. I hate to be cold.

Bad boy or Good boy?

I like a nice, healthy mix. Bad boys can be selfish and good boys can be boring.  One with both attributes is continually full of surprises.

Leather or Lace?

A mix. I adore an 18th century badass hero with lace cuffs.

- I like lacy or leather, both at once, each separately, more, less all…

Hot sexy love scenes or sweet romance?

The hotter the better! But I love to focus on the emotions in a love scene rather than the physical choreography.

Vampire, werewolf or ghost?

Ghosts! My Phantom Lovers series feature a trio of ghostly heroes that I adore.  In Lucid, the hero is the ghost of Lord Byron. I love writing a historical hero into a paranormal romance.

Favorite location for a romance?

I’ve set several of my romances in my hometown in Alabama. I’ve read to write where you know instead of what you know. Because I know the scents, sounds and sultry feel of an Alabama summer night, I can describe the hell out of it!

-  Alabama sounds like the location for a Horror Movie, and Texas, and Vermont, and Nevada maybe… but hey I am from Jersey and that is other peoples nightmare location.

Debra GlassMy current release, Twice the Novice, is set in the Bavarian Alps in Germany, where I spent two summers. I tried to bring the rugged but fairytale beauty of that land to both my characters, the plot, and the description of my fictional castle,  Sommerhald. (Oops, did I just give away who inspired Axel von Sommerhalder, Novice’s hero?)

Is setting important to you as a reader? What type settings do you like to read? Comment by October 23 to be entered in a drawing for a free download of my Taboo Ellora’s Cave release, Twice the Novice.

Bound By Trust by Lila Munro

Review by Pepper

4.3 Whips in the Backseat

Bound by Trust by Lila Munro is a heart-wrenching story of love and betrayal. It focuses on both the dark and the light side of being the wife of a man in the military: the extreme loneliness faced by the wives of men deployed overseas, the fierce loyalty and camaraderie of men serving together in the military, and the ample opportunities for betrayal of marriage vows by both husbands and wives when separated for long periods of time. Being a military wife myself, I thought Munro handled these issues with honesty and sensitivity. Yet she didn’t downplay the emotional and financial devastation that one spouse can cause another when betraying the sacred trust of marriage.

Bound by Trust gives an insider’s look at the effect military life can have on married couples, though deception and betrayal are certainly not limited to military spouses. And while the story centers on Madi, who discovers her late husband led a secret life filled with lovers and unpaid debts, Munro makes it clear that there are as many stay-at-home women who betray their deployed husbands as there are deployed men who betray their stay-at-home wives. Munro also points out how easy it is to be betrayed when you are young, naïve, and willing to let your spouse handle all the finances. As Munro makes abundantly clear, “Check, Don’t Trust” is a motto that shouldn’t apply to marriage, but too often does.

Bound by Trust has a few plot surprises, which I enjoyed immensely. Though it started out with the cliché of two people who have a one-night stand and try to build that into a relationship, it quickly expanded into a much more complex plot, filled with conflict, tension, and suspense.  These plot twists, coupled with Munro’s intriguing and enchanting characters makes Bound by Trust time well spent.

Have you ever fallen in love with a book and its characters before you even met them? Well, that was exactly what happened to me when I started to dream up Jack & Tamara. He is a strong man who is closed off from feeling after a mission in Columbia that went horribly wrong, turning him off to trust and loyalty. She is a sweet girl who has been there for her lovers and friends only to be betrayed time and time again. The two of them couldn’t have been complete opposites, except for in the bedroom. But you know what they say…when you ignite a flame, sometimes it doesn’t go out, but spreads like wildfire.  Join me on the journey of Jack & Tamara…with what they’ll have to endure, only time will tell if they will find their Sweet Redemption.

Naughty Readers, Nerine Petros is in the Backseat today to talk about her very first book Shifting Perspectives. Which is set close to home for you Nerine, and far from us US readers.  Australian shape shifters, is there any local lore or are you just writing against the backdrop of what you know?

Nerine Petros:  As a child, we would camp on Fraser Island, which is where the dingos can be found. Fraser is a small island off the coast of Queensland. So from that point of view, yes I write from what I know. I also have a small fascination for Aboriginal culture. I’ve borrowed a small part of one of the Dreamtime beliefs of a creature that was part human, part dingo, but have really made up the rest of it from there.  The idea also came from reading so many wolf or leopard shifting stories and thinking to myself that it needed an Aussie edge, because I have never seen a live wolf in my life.

TK:  Very few of us have seen live wolves, other then the zoo.  I am okay with that though myself.  Your one character is a butcher, is that something you have experience with as well?
Or do shifters just gotta eat?

NP:  Not me personally, but my uncle used to be one…I still remember the smell of his shop. Honestly, it was a little of shifters gotta eat and a bit of a jab at us Aussies and our pickiness about our meat. We have one butcher in nearly every set of shops over here, and it all has to be the freshest and the best. Same goes for seafood. You can’t drive down our street on a weekend and not smell at least one barbecue going, even in the dead of winter and with only about 15 houses in the street.

TK: Note to self, to snag a hot Aussie man, learn more about meat and how to find the best possible. Are Aussie men hot, they have that great accent?

NP: Ooh good question!  Most of them are…  But yes, the majority of them do like their meat!  If you head to a beach on any given hot day, you are bound to find some luscious eye-candy, but I like the farmers. Those farm boys are really hot, and the muscles they’ve got are all natural.

TK: Don’t get me wrong, farmers sound tasty, but don’t they have to work like a million hours, seven days a week?

NP: Hmmm, not the ones in my book :)  They have plenty of time to play.

TK: Now that is my kinda farmer.  So there is lots of play time for the boys in Shifting Perspectives?

NP: I like to think so, and as the books go on, they just seem to have more fun. I guess it’s all about priorities, plus sometimes it’s just too hot to do anything else but play down and dirty.

TK: Note to self, Aussie men play down and dirty… You are making me want to plan a trip!  Maybe they will find my accent sexy…

NP: Oh yeah! Australia is fantastic…this book is mainly based in the scrubs though. A lot of red dirt and dust, a lot of days over 40 degrees celcius, and the flys. Oh, the flies. Probably one of the few things I dislike.  Wow! I was actually just thinking how much Aussies love other accents.  Whenever anyone travels, they always come back with tales of miscommunication and how cool everyones accents were…and I do know for sure, these lads do love an accent.

Nerine Petros: Thanks for having me. Don’t forget to send a review letting me know what you think of Oliver and Angus. Keep an eye out on the blog for more information about book two: Jacey, Fynn and Aden.

TK: Add to the list of travel destinations, Australia.  Thanks for your time Nerine, and teasing us with thoughts of Aussie men.

Hi my name is Suzannah Safi I write a mix of sub-genres within the romance genre.  You can find contemporary, paranormal, a hint of historical, thriller, suspense and horror.  I mix everything in my romances.   One of my editors described my writing as a roller-coaster-ride; you don’t know when a surprise will pop up, or what you will find next.

I wanted to do something that I enjoy, have passion for, and I found that writing is my real passion, so I’m doing that and proud of what I’ve accomplished. Can’t have enough sleep – who needs it anyway LOL.

Forbidden Fantasies

As for today’s subject I would like to talk about forbidden fantasies. So what are forbidden fantasies? Well, to me as an author, and not to forget an avid reader for romance in all its genres, ‘Forbidden Fantasies’ is a world filled with lives and experiences that you can live in, feel, renew your life with, and enjoy without breaking any rules.

My new short story is actually a new line I call it ‘Adrenaline Shots’ and the first short story under that line is called “Adrenaline Rush- Rule Breaker’ is sold exclusively through my website at www.suzannahsafi.com

The idea for my short story ‘Adrenaline Rush – Rule Breaker’ came to me as I was researching about personalities and how people react and behave, I found some women who are strong and kick-ass women, are eager to be submissive in bed that is, not submissive in relationships in general, an interesting research, love the fact that you research for something and end up finding more than what you dreamt of.

Celia, my heroine in this short story leads a forbidden lifestyle with her boyfriend Aden, when in one night they were abducted!

Meet Antwan, Celia described him as a man who just jumped out of a wrestling magazine. Broad chest, rippling muscles yet smooth, six feet of total sexy package.

A Blast of new fantasy she had never experienced, a lifestyle she didn’t know she would relish. Antwan’s talents extend to breaking every rule known to women. He is a man who will change her life forever. Now, Celia is finding the simple thrill of vanilla isn’t enough anymore – and she doesn’t mean ice-cream.

It’s about a woman who didn’t know that she wanted more than what she had.  You can see the trailer here, enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnjVRnHwav0
